Setting up a LinkedIn ABM campaign correctly takes about 90 minutes the first time (like seriously!).

Most teams spend longer than that on the creative alone, then lose a significant portion of their budget in the first week to four default settings they never thought to change.

We launched a real campaign live on camera during Workshop 4 of the [ZenABM](/linkedin-ad-campaign-insights) ABM Bootcamp 2026.

This post covers all about it.

**Note**: You can watch the full live campaign launch recording on [YouTube here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqoZcbd3cJo). Then come back and follow the steps below.

## How to Launch a LinkedIn ABM Campaign: Quick Summary

In case you want a quick overview:

- A LinkedIn ABM campaign setup takes \~90 minutes if your TAL, pixel, and creatives are ready.
- Most budget waste comes from four default settings: Audience Expansion, LinkedIn Audience Network, Maximum Delivery bidding, and Budget Optimization. Turn them OFF.
- Upload your company list 48 hours before launch. Target 80–90%+ match rate with correct LinkedIn company URLs.
- Use three ad sets: TLAs (40%), Single Image Ads (50%), Text Ads (10%) for a $10K/month budget.
- Use Manual CPC bidding, start 30% below recommended, and rotate ads evenly for clean early data.
- Website Visits objective outperforms Website Conversions for most B2B ABM setups.
- Personalization macros like {{company\_name}} can double CTR when available.
- After launch, track performance at the account level, not just CTR and CPL.
- Use [ZenABM](/) to see which companies engage, score accounts, move them through stages, and push signals into CRM automatically.
- Measure pipeline impact, not vanity metrics.

## Before You Launch: The Pre-Campaign Checklist

Following three things must be in place before you even touch LinkedIn Campaign Manager:

### An Enriched Target Account List

Before you hop on [campaign manager](/blog/track-companies-engaging-with-linkedin-ads), your target account list (TAL) must be ready and enriched with company names, LinkedIn company page URLs (essential for high match rates), and any contact data you will be using for audience uploads.

If you are using [Clay](/blog/clay-for-target-account-list-building-abm) for enrichment, this should already be done.

**Remember**: The LinkedIn Audience Hub requires at least 300 matched members to run ads. So, the list cannot be smaller.

![LinkedIn official docs say that there must be at least 300 member accounts to run a campaign](https://cdn.zenabm.com/media/linkedin-matched-audiences-best-practices.png)

### A Verified LinkedIn Pixel

Your LinkedIn pixel must absolutely be verified.

Steps:

- Go to LinkedIn Campaign Manager – Account – Insight Tag.
- Confirm the tag is installed on your website and firing correctly.
- If you are not sure, LinkedIn has a free Chrome extension ([LinkedIn Insight Tag](/blog/revenue-attribution-from-linkedin-abm) Helper) that checks the tag installation.

You can watch this quick video to understand it better:

[YouTube video player](https://www.youtube.com/embed/ElFnKaFGUpk?si=4ZOxVaWP-d4VS9kM)

**Note**: Please do not launch without a confirmed, working pixel or you’ll lose retargeting data from day one that you cannot recover retroactively.

### Ad Creatives

Obviously, your ad creatives must be ready, and by ready I mean agreed upon by everyone who has a say.

And how many?

Well, for perspective, a $10K/month budget supporting 10 ads will need:

- 5 TLAs (existing LinkedIn posts to promote)
- 3-4 single image ads (designed, copy written)
- 2-3 text ads (copy only, no design needed).

**Tip**: Do not create 20 ads for a $10K budget. You cannot serve them all meaningfully and the data will be useless.

## Step 1: Upload Your Audience List (48 Hours Before Launch)

LinkedIn requires 24-48 hours to process uploaded audience lists, so upload at least 48 hours before your planned launch date.

Here’s how to upload:

1. In [LinkedIn Campaign Manager](/linkedin-ad-campaign-insights): go to Plan – Audiences – Create Audience – Matched Audiences.
2. Select “Company List” (not Contact List, because [company lists have significantly higher match rates](/blog/best-gtm-engineering-agencies)).
3. Upload your CSV. Required columns: company name, and LinkedIn company page URL. Optional but helpful: industry, employee count, and website.
4. Now, wait for processing.
5. Check your match rate when it completes. Target 80-90%+. If it is below 70%, check that LinkedIn company page URLs are included and correctly formatted.

**Note**: The match rate can be low if LinkedIn company page URL column of may companies contains the company’s main website URL rather than their LinkedIn page URL. Ensure it is not so, by checking the link format. LinkedIn company page URLs follow the format linkedin.com/company/[company-name]. These can be enriched via Clay using the LinkedIn Enrichment waterfall.

## Step 2: Create Your Campaign Group

![creating campaign group in LinkedIn campaign manager for launching a LinkedIn ads campaign](https://cdn.zenabm.com/media/linkedin-campaign-manager-create-group.png)

The campaign group is the [top level](/blog/9-best-linkedin-ad-attribution-tools) of your campaign hierarchy.

In 2025-2026, [LinkedIn renamed “Campaigns” to “Ad Sets,”](/blog/how-to-set-up-linkedin-campaign-manager-hubspot-integration-and-why-theres-a-smarter-way) so the hierarchy is now Campaign Group – Ad Set – Ads (yes, just like in Meta).

Here’s how you to create the campaign group:

1. Go to Advertise – Create Campaign.
2. Select “Campaign Group” and name it clearly: “[ABM] [Persona/Intent] [Date]” for easy reference.
3. **Turn OFF Budget** [Optimization at the campaign group level.](/blog/9-best-linkedin-ad-attribution-tools) This setting is on by default. Disabling it lets you control budget allocation per ad [set rather than letting LinkedIn concentrate spend](/blog/account-scoring-from-linkedin-ad-data) on its early favorites.
4. Set to run continuously (no end date) for evergreen campaigns.

prefer “run continuously” option for evergreen campaigns
5. **Do NOT use [LinkedIn’s “Accelerate” AI campaign](/faq/how-is-zenabm-different-from-linkedin-campaign-manager) mode**. It forces settings that may not be appropriate for [ABM](/), and you lose control over key setup choices.

## Step 3: Create Your Ad Sets (One Per Ad Format Type)

Create separate ad sets (formerly called campaigns) for each main ad format type.

This gives you clean performance data by format and budget control per format type.

For a standard $10K/month [ABM campaign](/blog/abm-strategy-types), create three ad sets:

### Ad Set 1: Thought Leader Ads

Details of ads set 1:

- Objective: Engagement (Website Visits not available for TLAs)
- Audience: Your uploaded company list + job title/function filters
- Bidding: Manual CPC, 30% below recommended range
- Budget: \~40% of total monthly budget

### Ad Set 2: Single Image Ads

Details of ad set 2:

- Objective: Website Visits
- Audience: Same company list + same persona filters
- Bidding: Manual CPC, 30% below recommended range
- Budget: \~50% of total monthly budget

### Ad Set 3: Text Ads

Details of ad set 3:

- Objective: Website Visits
- Audience: Same company list + same persona filters
- Bidding: Manual CPC (very low – text ads are cheap)
- Budget: \~10% of total monthly budget

## Step 4: The Four Settings to Turn Off in Every Ad Set

These four settings are on by default.

Turn them off every time, without exception:

1. **Audience Expansion:** Small toggle just below the audience section. Untoggle it. LinkedIn’s lookalike expansion dilutes your precise ICP targeting.

Audience expansion in LinkedIn Campaign Manager (look at the blue checkbox at the bottom). Source: LinkedIn
2. **LinkedIn Audience Network:** In the Placements section. Untoggle it. This prevents your ads from appearing on connected TV and third-party sites where professional context and click-through behavior are absent.

Turn LinkedIn Audience Network off in LinkedIn Campaign Manager

Reddit practitioners dislike LinkedIn Audience Network even for awareness-oriented campaigns, let alone lead gen campaigns.
3. **Maximum Delivery bidding:** Change this to Manual Bidding by clicking “Show additional options” in the Bidding section. This is deliberately hidden by LinkedIn because manual bidding is better for advertisers but worse for LinkedIn’s revenue.

LinkedIn’s maximum delivery bidding setting. Source: Magnetica Advertising
4. **Budget Optimization:** Already turned off at the campaign group level in Step 2. Confirm it is also off at the ad set level.

## Step 5: Set Ad Rotation and Create Your Ads

Before creating ads, set ad rotation to “Rotate ads evenly” in the ad set settings.

[LinkedIn’s default rotation optimizes for performance](/blog/linkedin-abm-performance-benchmarks-report-2026), meaning it will over-allocate to the early performer before you have enough data to make that decision.

Even rotation gives all your ads equal impressions for the first 2-3 weeks, which is when you need data, not optimization.

Now, steps to create TLAs:

- Select “Single Image Ad” format (there is no dedicated TLA format option)
- Go to the “LinkedIn Members” tab and search for team members’ names
- Select the posts you want to promote (they must have been approved by the post author first)
- TLAs go into review immediately; allow 24-48 hours for approval

And steps to create single image ads:

- Select “Single Image Ad” format
- Follow LinkedIn’s creative spec: 1200x628px (or 1200x1200px for square format – square significantly outperforms landscape based on our benchmark data)
- Note: LinkedIn will reject ads with [“LinkedIn” in the headline text](/blog/linkedin-text-ads-the-ultimate-guide). Use “Linkdn” or “L-i-n-k-d-i-n” in copy where needed. LinkedIn within the image creative is fine, because LinkedIn does not OCR images.
- Use a specific landing page URL for each ad, and never send to the homepage

## Step 6: LinkedIn Personalization Macros (If Available in Your Account)

LinkedIn rolled out ad personalization macros in late 2025.

If your account has access (check with your LinkedIn account manager), these allow you to use variables like {{company\_name}}, {{job\_title}}, and {{first\_name}} in your ad copy.

Live test [data from Nihal’s client campaigns](/blog/abm-marketing-examples) showed CTR increasing from 0.6% to 1.2% when company\_name was added to the ad headline.

Company name macro outperforms first\_name macro in most B2B contexts, perhaps because seeing your company name in an ad headline creates immediate relevance.

**Requirements**: minimum audience size of 300 matched members. Also, a fallback version of the copy must be specified for cases where LinkedIn cannot identify the variable value.

## Step 7: Connect to ZenABM for Account-Level Tracking

Now, that you have launched [LinkedIn ads](/blog/how-to-analyze-linkedin-ads-with-claude-code), you’ll also need to analyze their performance.

Connect your LinkedIn ads account to [ZenABM](/crm-sync) for that.

Here’s how:

- Sign up for ZenABM using a company e-mail and verify that company e-mail.
- Now, click on “Continue setup” and click the “Connect LinkedIn” button:

![connect to LinkedIn in ZenABM](https://cdn.zenabm.com/media/zenabm-linkedin-integration-setup.png)

- Sign in to your LinkedIn account and complete the verification:

![Sign in your LinkedIn account for setting up a LinkedIn ads HubSpot Integration](https://cdn.zenabm.com/media/linkedin-sign-in-form-welcome-back.png)

- After this, you’ll be led back to ZenABM where you must choose the LinkedIn ad account you want to integrate.

Once connected, you’ll be able to every performance metric that matters in ZenABM:

![ZenABM campaign analytics showing ABM spend, influenced pipeline and account stages to measure ABM results](https://cdn.zenabm.com/media/ZenABM-Campaign-analytics.png)

In fact, if you don’t like interpreting dashboards, you can also ask Zena (ZenABM’s AI agent) in natural langauge!

![Zena AI chatbot table ranking LinkedIn ads by click-through rate, with the top ad at 8.44% CTR](https://cdn.zenabm.com/media/Top-ads-by-CTR-Zena-AI-AI-linkedin-ads-chatbot-1.png)

## How to Utilize ZenABM to Ace Account-Based Advertising on LinkedIn

Launching a LinkedIn ABM campaign correctly is only half the job.

The real leverage comes from what you do after the ads go live: how you interpret engagement, how you prioritize accounts, and how fast you turn signals into action.

[ZenABM](/) is built specifically to operationalize account-based advertising on LinkedIn, beyond what Campaign Manager can show.

### See Which Target Accounts Actually Engage With Your Ads

![ZenABM dashboard showing company-level ads engagement data per campaign by pulling first party intent signals from LinkedIn API](https://cdn.zenabm.com/media/image.png)

![ZenABM company table showing LinkedIn ad impressions, clicks and cost per target account](https://cdn.zenabm.com/media/Company-level-LinkedIn-ad-engagement-data-for-each-campiagn-for-a-selected-time-period-in-ZenABM.png)

Once your [LinkedIn ads are live](/blog/linkedin-campaign-objectives), ZenABM connects to the official LinkedIn Ads API and captures engagement at the **company level**. Instead of optimizing based on aggregated CTRs and CPCs, you can see exactly which target accounts are seeing, clicking, and repeatedly engaging with your ads.

This is critical for ABM, because a 0.6% CTR from your Tier-1 accounts is far more valuable than a 1.2% CTR driven by irrelevant companies.

[ZenABM lets you evaluate](/company-buyers-intent) performance based on account quality, not just volume.

### Measure Real Engagement (Not Inflated Metrics)

[LinkedIn’s Performance tab often overstates engagement](/blog/crm-integrations-linkedin-ad-tracking), especially for Thought Leader Ads.

[ZenABM focuses on first-party engagement signals](/blog/zenabm-warm-outbound) such as impressions, clicks, and repeat interactions at the account level, giving you a much clearer picture of which ads are actually resonating.

Instead of guessing whether TLAs or single image ads are “working,” you can directly compare how different formats drive engagement from the same accounts over the same time window.

### Understand Who Inside the Account Is Engaging

![ZenABM job title analytics: campaign groups for Growth Specialist with impressions, clicks and CTR](https://cdn.zenabm.com/media/Job-title-analytics-in-ZenABM-e1763015217744.jpeg)

Account-based advertising is effective only if it [reaches the right people inside the account](/blog/abm-for-hard-to-reach-audiences).

ZenABM shows which job titles engage with each ad and campaign, so you can validate whether your targeting is resonating with senior decision makers or skewing toward junior roles.

This insight is especially useful when testing dense, product-heavy creatives versus more abstract messaging.

You can see which personas respond to which creative style and adjust accordingly.

### Track Momentum With Engagement Scoring and Timelines

![ZenABM does lead scoring based on both current and all-time engagement levels](https://cdn.zenabm.com/media/zenabm-account-engagement-scoring.png)

![ZenABM company-level engagement overview for Vodafone showing impressions, clicks and engagement metrics](https://cdn.zenabm.com/media/Company-level-engagement-overview-ZenABM--scaled.png)

[ZenABM scores engagement](/blog/linkedin-ads-crm-automation) in real time and visualizes it on a company-level timeline.

This allows you to see when accounts are heating up, which campaigns contributed, and how engagement accumulates across formats such as TLAs, single image ads, and text ads.

Instead of reacting to daily CTR fluctuations, you can focus on sustained engagement patterns that indicate genuine buying interest.

### Turn Ad Engagement Into ABM Stage Movement and Sales Action

![ABM stage tracking in ZenABM](https://cdn.zenabm.com/media/zenabm-abm-stages-management.png)

[ZenABM lets you define ABM](/pricing) stages such as Identified, Aware, Engaged, Interested, and Opportunity, then automatically moves accounts between stages based on engagement thresholds and CRM data.

Once an account reaches your “Interested” threshold, ZenABM can sync this signal into HubSpot or Salesforce and assign a BDR automatically, ensuring that high-intent [accounts generated through LinkedIn ads](/blog/how-do-linkedin-ads-work) are acted on quickly.

![ZenABM assigns accounts in the "interested" stage to BDRs in your CRM](https://cdn.zenabm.com/media/zenabm-hubspot-crm-account-assignment.png)

### Control Spend Distribution With Company-Level Exclusions

![Exclude companies straight from ZenABM's interface](https://cdn.zenabm.com/media/zenabm-exclusions-management-interface.png)

In [LinkedIn ABM campaigns](/blog/revenue-attribution-from-linkedin-abm), a handful of large accounts can absorb a disproportionate share of impressions. ZenABM allows you to exclude companies that have crossed a defined impression threshold, helping you maintain balanced coverage [across your entire target account](/blog/best-intent-based-abm-tools) list.

This ensures your advertising budget supports broad [account penetration](/blog/account-penetration-strategy-guide) rather than repeatedly serving ads to the same few enterprises.

### Evaluate Account-Based Advertising on Pipeline Impact, Not Vanity Metrics

ZenABM’s built-in dashboards connect [LinkedIn ad engagement](/faq/push-linkedin-ad-engagement-to-crm) to account progression and pipeline contribution, allowing you to evaluate account-based advertising the way it should be evaluated.

- You can monitor performance from high-level ABM campaigns down to LinkedIn campaign groups and individual ads:
- Because ZenABM stores deal value and [ad spend per company](/faq/see-companies-clicked-on-linkedin-ads) and per campaign, it can calculate ROAS, pipeline per dollar, and other revenue metrics and show pipeline contribution.

### CRM Integration and Workflows

[ZenABM integrates bi-directionally with CRMs like HubSpot](/blog/push-linkedin-ad-impressions-to-crm) and adds Salesforce sync on higher tiers.

[LinkedIn engagement data flows](/blog/push-linkedin-ad-engagements-into-hubspot) into the CRM as company-level properties:

![LinkedIn ad data pushed to company lists in the HubSpot CRM using ZenABM](https://cdn.zenabm.com/media/ZenABM-metrics-visible-as-company-properties-in-HubSpot-CRM-using-ZenABMs-sync.png)

### Intent Tagging from Ad Engagement

ZenABM lets you derive [intent topics from LinkedIn campaigns](/faq/identify-high-intent-accounts-linkedin-ads) by [tagging campaigns](/blog/revenue-attribution-from-linkedin-abm) by feature, use case, or offer.

[ZenABM then shows which accounts engage](/use-cases/account-scoring) with which themes.

![ZenABM revenue metrics dashboard showing LinkedIn-influenced pipeline by month and ABM campaign effectiveness](https://cdn.zenabm.com/assets/company-buyers-intent-in-ZenABM.gif)

This is first-party intent from owned interactions.

You can push these topics into your CRM, so [sales and marketing](/blog/factors-ai-vs-terminus) can tailor outreach to what each company has actually explored.

![Pushing intent as property in ZenABM](https://cdn.zenabm.com/media/Intent-propety-.png)

### AI Chatbot to Analyze Your LinkedIn and ABM Data

[YouTube video player](https://www.youtube.com/embed/_XTdy7dv03o?si=83FKKtvkXsm6ZKEr)

[ZenABM provides](/blog/6sense-vs-zenabm) its AI chatbot called Zena that answers analytics questions in natural language.

You can ask Zena open-ended questions like you would a smart analyst and get company-level answers about:

- who is seeing and clicking your ads,
- how [campaigns and ABM](/blog/what-is-zenabm) initiatives are performing,
- how accounts are moving through stages,
- which job titles are engaging,
- and where the [budget is being wasted](/blog/linkedin-ads-mistakes).

Under the hood, Zena combines OpenAI with a library of prompts and endpoints to join [ad engagement](/blog/linkedin-ad-engagement-analytics-zenabm), spend, and CRM deals so it can explain which campaigns drove pipeline, which accounts turned into opportunities, and where performance concentrates.

Instead of exporting spreadsheets and stitching pivot tables, you get plain language outputs that can be used in reviews, standups, or exec updates.

### Custom Webhooks

![ZenABM's webhook configuration](https://cdn.zenabm.com/media/zenabm-webhook-configuration-form.png)

ZenABM’s custom webhooks let you push events into your stack, for example, Slack alerts, enrichment flows, or other ops [automations](/faq/linkedin-ad-clicks-into-crm-for-abm).

### ABM Campaign Objects for True Multi-Campaign Attribution

![ZenABM ABM Campaigns table listing campaign names, statuses and spend for tracking account-based marketing](https://cdn.zenabm.com/media/list-of-ABM-campaigns-and-other-objects-in-ZenABM.png)

Most tools treat each [LinkedIn campaign](/blog/linkedin-ads-benchmarks) separately. ZenABM lets you group several into one ABM campaign object so you can see [performance across regions](/blog/abm-strategy-and-segmentation), personas, or creative clusters.

Instead of juggling fragmented [reports in Campaign Manager](/blog/track-companies-engaging-with-linkedin-ads), you see spend, pipeline, account movement, and ROAS for the entire initiative.

### Multi Client Workspace for Agencies

For agencies, ZenABM offers a multi-client workspace.

You can manage multiple ad accounts and clients in one environment, each with its own [ABM strategy](/blog/abm-strategy-types), dashboards, and reporting, instead of constantly switching [accounts in Campaign Manager](/use-cases/linkedin-campaign-management-optimization).

## [ZenABM Pricing](/pricing)

![ZenABM pricing](https://cdn.zenabm.com/media/zenabm-pricing-plans-comparison.png)

Plans start at $59/month for Starter, $159/month for Growth, $399/month for the Pro (AI) tier, and $479/month for the agency tier.

Even the highest tier costs under $6,000/year, far less than most enterprise attribution suites.

All [plans cover essential LinkedIn ABM functions](/blog/structure-linkedin-abm-campaigns), with higher tiers mostly expanding limits or adding Salesforce integration.

Pricing is flexible (monthly or annual with two months free), and a 37-day free trial allows [teams to try before buying](/blog/demandbase-one-for-abm).

## So, Are You Ready to Launch the Next LinkedIn Ad Campaign?

LinkedIn ABM is not complicated, but it is precise. Most budget waste happens before the first optimization, through default settings, rushed decisions, and measuring the wrong signals.

If you follow the setup steps in this guide and give your campaigns enough data to mature, the real advantage comes after launch, when you can see which [target accounts are actually engaging](/blog/measure-linkedin-ad-engagement-target-accounts) and act on those signals quickly.

That is where tools like ZenABM fit naturally, helping you move from aggregated ad metrics to account-level engagement, prioritization, and sales action without changing your LinkedIn setup.

Launch with control, measure what matters, and make sure engagement turns into pipeline.

## FAQs

### How do I launch a LinkedIn ABM campaign step by step?

Upload your company list 48 hours before launch. Create a campaign group with Budget Optimization off. Create ad sets for each format type (TLAs, single image, text ads) with Audience Expansion off, LAN off, and Manual Bidding enabled. Set ad rotation to “Rotate evenly.” Create your ads. Connect to [ZenABM at campaign](/use-cases/abm-campaign-management-performance-tracking) group level for company-level tracking. Check match rates and confirm LinkedIn pixel is firing before going live.

### How long does it take to set up a LinkedIn ABM campaign?

With your audience list and ad creative already prepared, the actual Campaign [Manager](/blog/abm-campaign-template) setup takes 60-90 minutes for a standard three-ad-set structure. The bottlenecks are typically audience processing time (48 hours) and TLA approval time (24-48 hours). Plan for 4-5 days from “ready to start setup” to “campaign live.”

### What is the correct bid for LinkedIn ABM campaigns?

Start 30% below the recommended manual bid range for your target audience and objective. Monitor daily spend for 3-5 days. If spend consistently reaches 90-95%+ of daily budget, your bid is working. If spend is below 70% of daily budget, increase the bid by 10-15% and wait 2-3 days. Do not increase bids more than once every 2-3 days – give LinkedIn time to adjust delivery.

### Why should I use Website Visits objective instead of Website Conversions for LinkedIn ABM?

Website Conversions objective requires LinkedIn to optimize toward conversion events – which needs 30+ conversions per month to train the algorithm effectively. Most [B2B ABM](/blog/b2b-abm-strategy-the-ultimate-guide) campaigns with long sales cycles do not generate that many conversions. Website Visits objective targets the most click-likely audience, which is a reliable proxy for the engagement you actually want. Website Conversions for [B2B LinkedIn ABM](/blog/best-tools-linkedin-first-abm) is a more expensive version of Website Visits with less accurate optimization.
